A friend sent me this article below but I’ve not tried it yet. I will and let you know how it works when I can. Now I send my goodies to the earth friendly dry cleaners or hand wash them. I also hang smoky things outside for a couple days which works wonders. Rose water when you hand wash is great too.

You know that vintage funk smell—a little musty, a bit pungent cheese-smelling and sort of moldy. Well, stink be gone: Janie Bryant, the “Mad Men” costume designer who turns out Betty, Don and the rest of the Sterling Cooper gang in ridiculously sexy (but not always overtly so) looks week after week (and clearly knows a little something about shopping vintage), shares an amazing tip: “All you have to do is mix one part vodka with two parts water in a spray bottle. It works every time—that’s the power of vodka for you.” [Valet magazine via Glamour]

I came across this vintage 80’s leather jacket the other day cleaning out some old storage. I decorated and wore this back in the 80’s when I was a little bratty teenage punk rocker. I added the studs and painted it after an Olivia painting (before I was one of her models).

I’m torn about what to do with it. Should I sell it or keep it? It still fits me like a glove and I do ride a motorcycle so it would be perfect for that, but it’s worth quite a bit of money & I’m not 17 anymore (thank god!).

I came across this great radio station on itunes called Crime Time: old-time radio featuring detectives, cops & robbers, murder & mayhem, guns & ghouls, danger & dames! Along with actual old vintage radio advertisements. It’s free too. Not a reproduction but real vintage radio from back in the day.
Just click on the radio category on the left in itunes. It starts playing right away no special anything needed. Allot of fun!

LIPSTICK INFORMATION:
Something to consider next time you go shopping for Lipstick……

This comes from someone who works in the breast cancer unit at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto. Recently a lipstick brand called ‘ Red Earth’ decreased their prices from $67 to $9.90. It contained lead.

Lead is a chemical which causes cancer.
The lipstick brands that contain lead are:

CHRISTIAN DIOR
LANCÔME
CLINIQUE
Y.S.L
ESTEE LAUDER
SHISEIDO
RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
MARKET AMERICA-MOTNES LIPSTICK.

The higher the lead content, The greater the chance of causing cancer. After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L. Lipstick Contained the most amount of lead.

Watch out for those lipsticks which are supposed to stay longer. If your lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of lead.

Here is the test you can do yourself:
1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
3. If the lipstick color changes to black, Then you know the lipstick contains lead.

This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center Dioxin Carcinogens cause cancer, especially breast cancer!

As a vintage clothing seller I’m forever repairing the vintage clothing I sell. It feels like 1/2 my life is spent with a needle and thread in hand. I don’t want the clothing to be badly done so I’m always trying new things out to see how they work & if I can save some time and have a better repair. The majority of the time I send the clothing out to be professionally repaired but for the very small things that aren’t worth sending out I do them myself. I recently bought and tried Mighty Mend It after seeing those very persuasive commercials on TV. I thought I’d pass along my experience to you guys to try to help you save some money.

I tried it out on scrap fabrics first, as I always do with cleaning products, dye’s and other things that I intend to use on my vintage clothes. I used it on a variety of vintage fabrics, brocade, cottons, rayons, velvets, leather, and even denim. It doesn’t perform exactly as they say. You can’t wash it in hot water, and dry cleaning fluids disolve it. It’s also not immediate. You must wait at least 2 hours before wearing. It does work but it’s only good for a temporary fix. It did not hold up on leather at all. It’s also very expensive. You can find a number of other products at Joanne’s or Michael’s that does the exact same thing at a fraction of the cost. They also will not return your money if you’re not happy. They will only replace it, but why would you want more if you don’t like it? As of now I think nothing will take the place of the trusy needle and thread. So in the end I don’t give it a thumbs up or down… Just a not great rating.
