As a vintage clothing seller I’m forever repairing the vintage clothing I sell. It feels like 1/2 my life is spent with a needle and thread in hand. I don’t want the clothing to be badly done so I’m always trying new things out to see how they work & if I can save some time and have a better repair. The majority of the time I send the clothing out to be professionally repaired but for the very small things that aren’t worth sending out I do them myself. I recently bought and tried Mighty Mend It after seeing those very persuasive commercials on TV. I thought I’d pass along my experience to you guys to try to help you save some money.
I tried it out on scrap fabrics first, as I always do with cleaning products, dye’s and other things that I intend to use on my vintage clothes. I used it on a variety of vintage fabrics, brocade, cottons, rayons, velvets, leather, and even denim. It doesn’t perform exactly as they say. You can’t wash it in hot water, and dry cleaning fluids disolve it. It’s also not immediate. You must wait at least 2 hours before wearing. It does work but it’s only good for a temporary fix. It did not hold up on leather at all. It’s also very expensive. You can find a number of other products at Joanne’s or Michael’s that does the exact same thing at a fraction of the cost. They also will not return your money if you’re not happy. They will only replace it, but why would you want more if you don’t like it? As of now I think nothing will take the place of the trusy needle and thread. So in the end I don’t give it a thumbs up or down… Just a not great rating.
This is a photo of me on my bike. I found this late 60’s vintage jacket a few years ago and I recently came across another one with a slightly different design of the metal studs… By the same label. Made of black cotton canvas with silver metal studs. They came with the matching pants too! I save all the best vintage clothing for myself! If I can fit in it anyway.
I came across these amazing fashion photos from the 1960’s and had to share. The 60’s and 1920’s are my 2 favorite decades. There’s nothing like vintage designer clothing from the late 60’s! Even the early 70’s was just so sexy and pure art for designers and music alike. Music, obviously, heavily influenced fashion at that time. There are a few Pucci outfits here along with Givenchy and other famous designers of that time. I have much more and will keep posting them today & over the next few days.
I’ve been wanting to expand my vintage clothing & fashion blog to include music, entertainment, beauty, and other topics besides vintage clothing for some time. I’ve been so busy running Posh Girl that I really haven’t had the time but I’ll be making more time now. I live in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world and have been in and around the entertainment and fashion world since I was a kid so from time to time I have some interesting inside knowledge you might find fun.
Next I’ll be bloging about my Christmas eve dinner at Kristen Stewart’s house who is, in case you live under a rock, the star of Twilight.
So keep checking in.
I was very sad to learn of Bettie Page’s passing. I felt the need to write a little something in her honor. I never met her but a few years ago I asked Joel Barren husband of the famous pinup artist Olivia De Berardinis , who has painted Bettie extensively, to introduce me. I’m also one of Olivia’s models and have been posing for her since I was 22. I’m the model in STILETTO and PIERCING THE VEIL…. 2 of the more famous ones she has done of me. Piercing The Veil was the most expensive painting she ever did. It sold for aprox $98,000 and Olivia says it’s the most important painting in her collection. I’m honored to be the model for it. You can see my slight Bettie Page influence in the Stiletto painting below.
Joel told me that Bettie was not doing well. She had been hearing voices and refused to take her meds. From what I gathered from that conversation she had schizophrenia. So I was not able to meet her. I wish I had asked a few years before!
I’m very sad I did not get to meet her. She was a big influence in my life from modeling to vintage clothing. Before this whole Bettie Page craze took off, and hardly anyone knew who she was, I was collecting her Irving Klaw vintage photos and doing pinup fetish modeling. She was one of the most beautiful models, and I loved her characature comic book looks. Our lives were similar… she had conflicted feelings about her modeling and felt she waisted too much time on “milk toast men”.
I’ve heard some rumors there’s some girl going around telling people she is Betties daughter but according to my inside sources she never had kids. Something she always regretted.
Here are a couple of my favorite photos. The black & whites are my personal favorites. Simple and elegant.

I just stumbled across these amazing photos of an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I’m so sad I missed this exhibit but the Met’s blog photos are stunning & will have to do. It has some amazing pieces of vintage fashion art. Designer vintage & antique dresses, shoes, and I especially love these vintage 1920’s (almost antique) designer fetish boots. Being an ex vintage fetish model I have an affinity for these well made pieces of art. They’re nothing like the modern garbage you see now at places like the Pleasure Chest or cheap knock off poseur fetish wear stores like Hot Topic. The quality of vintage clothing is so much better than todays clothing.
